President's Message
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Women Builders Council. I am honored to serve as the President
of this distinguished organization. The women of the WBC are exceptionally talented
individuals. Our all-volunteer board of directors is comprised of not only leading
business women owners, but building industry executives who bring unparalleled
experience, knowledge and dedication.
Throughout our great nation there are tens of thousands of women who work and
have their businesses in the building industries. We are found
in the ranks of contractors, engineers, architects, construction managers, electricians,
plumbers, expediters...just to mention a few.
Here in New York, women in the building industry generate millions of dollars that, in turn, contribute to the economic growth of the state and city.
Our goal is to make it possible for many more women to achieve their professional and personal objectives. The WBC is hard at work, determined to eliminate unnecessary barriers that have deterred women and minorities from being full active participants in New York's construction industry.
The WBC, through its ongoing outreach, impacts public policy so as to ensure
procurement opportunities. WBC also serves in an advisory capacity to state and
local agencies. We work with the city of New York in certifying women-owned
business enterprises.
WBC encourages corporations and the buildings trades to
appoint women to serve as board members in their respective organizations. We
work with the industry on best practices. We have walked the "corridors" of
City Hall, Albany and Washington. We have met with many elected officials to
share our ideas. Our recommendations have been welcomed.
WBC members serve as mentors to young women in our industry. We understand that our future is in the hands of those who will soon join us and strengthen the foundation that we are building. Mentoring is a significant part of our platform. Our Board is currently developing new outreach programs for K-12 and college students to further enhance awareness to our industry.
As we move forward, we will reach out to many of the excellent women organizations
across the nation whose missions' align with ours. Organizations dedicated to
advancing the role of women. WBC will carry on its mission making certain that
women have a voice in our building industries.
It is my hope and aspiration that we continue together to build New York. I
invite you to join the Women Builders Council.
