Cas Holloway

Deputy Mayor for Operations, Office of the Mayor, New York City

 

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg appointed Cas Holloway Deputy Mayor for Operations on August 4, 2011. As Deputy Mayor, Holloway oversees 11 mayoral agencies and offices and assists the Mayor in overseeing the Police Department, Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management, Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Labor Relations.

From January 1, 2010 until his appointment as Deputy Mayor, Holloway served as the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. To implement PlaNYC—the Mayor’s blueprint for a sustainable New York City – Holloway appointed DEP’s first Deputy Commissioner for Sustainability, created an energy team to develop the next generation of distributed generation investments, reorganized DEP’s capital projects division and initiated Water for the Future, a $2 billion package of investments that will repair leaks in the Delaware Aqueduct and ensure the reliability of the City’s water supply for years to come. From 2006 until his appointment at DEP, Holloway served as Chief of Staff and Counsel to Deputy Mayor for Operations Edward Skyler and as Special Advisor to Mayor Bloomberg. He graduated cum laude from Harvard College and with honors from the University of Chicago Law School.

Gregorio Mayers

Senior Policy Advisor for Policy and Programs, Office of the Mayor

 

Gregorio Mayers joined the Bloomberg Administration in 2006 as a Senior Policy Advisor. He and his team have worked to develop ‘Compete to Win,” Mayor Bloomberg’s new initiative to support the growth of minority and women owned businesses in New York City. Mayers also oversaw all capital development projects for the School Construction Authority.

Since June of 2011, Mayers has been the architect and leading strategic visionary of the Mayor’s Office MWBE policy and initiatives to create greater opportunities for small business to compete successfully in the marketplace by providing them with the support to build capacity.


Prior to joining the Bloomberg Administration, Mayers served on the faculty as a tenured professor of the City University of New York (CUNY).  Mayers was also the Chair of the Department of Public Administration and Assistant Professor and at Medgar Evers, teaching Administrative Law, Government, and Public Policy courses from 2001-2006.


In 2003, Mayers was appointed by Mayor Bloomberg to serve on the Environmental Control Board. For the past 15 years, Mayers has served as a political strategist and advisor on several political campaigns, and he continued to be sought after for his experience in the field.

Cheryl McKissack

President, Women Builders Council

 

CHERYL MCKISSACK DANIEL is President and CEO of The McKissack Group, Inc., and has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry. Born in Nashville to architect William D. Berry and teacher, Leatrice McKissack, she represents the fifth generation of the McKissack family's century-old business, McKissack & McKissack, the oldest minority-owned design and construction firm in the nation.

 

As President and CEO of The McKissack Group, McKissack Daniel provides executive leadership on numerous high profile projects and ensures that diversity is implemented throughout each phase of a project or program. McKissack Daniel serves on various boards, including the Philadelphia Authority of Industrial Development and the National Liberty Museum Board, where she was honored as a 'Hero of Liberty' for her support of humanitarian initiatives and for promoting the responsibilities of a free and diverse America. McKissack Daniel also served as co-chair on Philadelphia Mayor John Street's Transition Committee for Small Business, and is an active member in both the New York Building Congress and Women in Transportation (WTS). She earned both a bachelor and master's degree in civil engineering from Howard University.

Jack S.Nyman

Executive Director, Steven L. Newman Real State Institute

 

Jack S. Nyman is director of the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute, Baruch College, the City University of New York. He has been instrumental in the accelerated growth and esteemed reputation of the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute that has helped place the Institute in the national arena of real estate education and research. His expertise lies in the areas of real estate development, investment finance, energy management and sustainability.

 

Mr. Nyman holds a Master of Architecture degree from Arizona State University and an advanced Master in Design Studies, with a concentration in real estate development, from Harvard University. He has lectured on various aspects of real estate development such as affordable housing, comprehensive smart city growth and energy management. He leads Institute operations, strategic planning, partnering, and industry liaison. Under his tenure the Institute has steadily gained recognition for leadership in promoting critical dialogue on industry concerns within a broad public policy context for New York City, the metro region, nationally and internationally. He is an Associate of the American Institute of Architects, a Fellow of the Institute for Urban Design and has most recently served as Co-Chair of the board of the U.S. Green Building Council, New York and serves on the boards of the CUNY Institute for Urban Systems and the Sustainability Practice Network.

Anne Rascon

Deputy Commissioner, NYC Small Buisness Services

 

Anne Rascon oversees the City’s Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) program and the initiatives under Executive Order 50 that were created to ensure parity in the hiring practices of City contractors.  Rascon works to shape City policies to ensure the fair and meaningful participation of certified M/WBEs in winning City contracts and to expand the City’s oversight of its contractors to ensure compliance with applicable equal employment opportunity laws.  Rascon joined SBS in March of 2008. Prior to that, she was the Director of Planning at the NYC District Council of Carpenters and also served as the President and CEO of Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW).

Deborah Bradley

President, Deborah Bradley Construction & Management Services, Inc.

 

Deborah Bradley is Founder and President of Deborah Bradley Construction & Management Services Inc., a full-service General Contractor and Construction Management Consultant to institutional and educational facilities and public agencies throughout New York State.  Today, it continues to be a 100% woman-owned and operated business enterprise.  The firm’s long-term relationships on capital projects include such clients as the NYC School Construction Authority, DASNY, Con Edison, Central Park Conservancy, Battery Park City Authority, CUNY, the NYC Department of Small Business Services and Columbia University, among others.


Through Deborah’s hard work and dedication to quality she now oversees an over fifteen-million-dollar firm with fifty employees and a broad range of capabilities.  Despite the firm’s extensive growth in recent years, Deborah is hands-on in all aspects of the company’s performance. Her early experience as a CPA with Deloitte & Touche and her MBA from Columbia University serve Deborah well as she guides the firm which she founded.   Deborah is Northeast Regional Director of Women Construction Owners & Executives, and is involved with a number of other worthy organizations in the construction industry, including the Regional Alliance of Small Contractors and the NYC Building Congress.  As a business owner and mother of three, Deborah is committed to teaching and mentoring young women entering the construction industry as well as helping other small M/WBE firms grow and prosper.

Tawan Davis

Vice President, NYC Economic Development Corporation

 

Tawan Davis is a Vice President for New York City’s Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Adjunct Professor of Finance at New York University (NYU).

 

NYCEDC leads the major economic and real estate development initiatives throughout New York City.  Davis leads teams that analyze, structure, and execute these objectives.  He also focuses on identifying alternative financing sources for the City’s infrastructure needs.

 

Tawan began his career as an investment banker with Goldman, Sachs, and was later a real estate and private equity investor and asset manager with Prudential Investment Management.  He has managed several billion dollars of commercial real estate and private equity investments throughout Europe and the United States. 

 

Davis is currently authoring a book on investment opportunities in emerging and re-emerging sectors within the US, with a focus on urban strategies.

Tawan earned his BA in Political Economy with honors from Georgetown University, a Masters of Sciences from England’s Oxford University, and an MBA from Harvard University’s Business School.

Juan Espinosa

Juan G. Espinosa, the Chairman of The Espinosa Group, Inc., has been a practicing attorney for 23 years, specializing in commercial transactions and litigation. Juan has held various senior management positions in the chemical/pharmaceutical and construction industries.

Through his years of management, legal and engineering experience, Juan Espinosa established The Espinosa Group as one of the premier Hispanic owned construction companies in the country.


Mr. Espinosa holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree, a Masters in Management Science and a Juris Doctorate degree. He has taught in several graduate business programs.

Bomi Kim

Senior Vice President, NYC Economic Development Corporation

 

Bomi Kim is the Senior Vice President and Director of Opportunity M/W/DBE for New York City Economic Development Corporation. Bomi joined NYCEDC in 2006 to develop, implement and manage Opportunity M/W/DBE, NYCEDC’s business development program for certified minority, women and disadvantaged business. Opportunity M/W/DBE is dedicated to increasing participation by M/W/DBEs on NYCEDC projects while providing capacity building assistance. Through Opportunity M/W/DBE, NYCEDC has awarded over $145M in contracts to M/W/DBEs in both prime and subcontracts.

 

Prior to joining NYCEDC, Bomi managed Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s procurement assistance program and served as Deputy Director of Economic Development for Queens Borough President’s Office.

 

Bomi is a graduate of New York University’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service in Urban Planning.

Nayan Parikh

Presedent, Ashnu International

 

Nayan Parikh is the founder and President of Ashnu International. Parikh began his career as a civil engineer in India. After migrating to the U.S. in 1994, he worked as an estimator for a small construction company.

Parikh founded Ashnu International in 1998 as a general contracting and construction management company based in New York City. Under his leadership, Ashnu is a trusted, premier service provider to a host of federal and state agencies as well as a diverse group of clients in the private sector.

In 2012, the Regional Alliance of Small Contractors awarded Parikh its “Contractor of the Year” award. As the keynote speaker of the award presentation; New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg noted the important role contractors like Parikh play in completing projects in New York City.

Parikh is an active figure in supporting community based organizations. He acts as the president of the Society of Indo-American Engineers and Architects (SIAEA). The SIAEA works to promote increased representation of small minority and women owned businesses in construction and other related industries.

Mayor Bloomberg selected Parikh to serve on the Construction Mentorship Advisory Panel. He also sits on the advisory board of the Minority and Women Owned Businesses of New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

Elizabeth Velez

President, Velez Organization

 

Elizabeth Velez serves as President and Chief Contract Administrator for all of the Velez Organization's business and management activities. Ms. Velez's experience in the construction industry has spanned over twenty years, and she participates on industry and community based boards, such as the New York Building Congress, National Hispanic Business Group, Association of Minority Enterprises of New York (AMENY), the Mayor's Commission on Construction Opportunity, the Board of ACE Mentor of New York and the NYC Department of Business Services Advisory Board. She is a former member of the Board of Trustees for Boricua College. Ms. Velez holds an MBA, and is actively involved in issues facing the construction industry and affirmative action.
