What you really Need to know About Mechanic’s Lien Law Requirements

On December 6, 2013 Lori Schwarz, partner at leading construction law firm Zetlin & De Chiara LLP and General Counsel to WBC, recently gave a seminar as part of WBC’s Small Business Seminar Series on how to preserve and enforce your lien rights. Her New York-focused presentation outlined precisely who can file a lien and when, what is lienable,  what information must be included in the lien, how to properly serve a lien and more. Special attention was given to providing strategies to meet the strict requirements of the Lien Law and proper commencement of lien foreclosure actions, along with strategic considerations to assist in actually getting paid.

But  it you fail to comply with the specific requirements of the New York Lien Law, then the  validity of the lien can be undermined. And with different requirements for filing liens against private projects and public improvements, ensuring the preservation of lien rights can be tricky.
